Organic for everyone

As more and more people become aware of the benefits of organic food and farming, so consumer demand has increased. This has led to major retailers taking notice with organic ranges now widely available in supermarkets. This is all supported by the Organic Trade Board research, which found that 64% of respondents buy organic food from supermarkets.

A Tesco spokesman commented ‘we stock more than 700 organic lines, covering eleven food and drink categories. Our largest ranges are within products i.e. fruit and vegetables and baby food which also represent the greatest proportion of our organic sales. Our ultimate aim is to make sure that we offer the greatest variety of organic choice across our stores’

Paul Moore from Crazy Jack comments, “When the recession hit we lost space on shelf, but interestingly where space stayed the same, our sales increased. This shows the organic consumer is an informed one because they make their purchase decisions before they leave home. We have a wide consumer base from mums wanting the best for their kids through to students and the older generation. They buy our product for many reasons – taste, environment, health, animal welfare and so on.”
